The Canada Goose Cup for The Conservation Alliance tradition at
Outdoor Retailer Winter Market continues in 2011 when 16 teams
compete in two rinks at the Industry Party (in MR250) on Thursday,
January 20, from 6-8 pm. The event will raise more than $8,000 for
The Conservation Alliance. Teams from adidas Outdoor, Arc’teryx,
CamelBak, Canada Goose, Columbia, Eastern Mountain Sports, ITW
Nexus Global, Kamik, Keen, Merrell, Nikwax, Outdoor Industry
Association, Outdoor Retailer, Prana, PrimaLoft and Yukon Charlie’s
are currently in training and will compete under the bright lights
of the “Canada Goose Cup Arena” at the Salt Palace.

“Having twice the amount of teams participate in the 2011 Canada
Goose Cup is a clear indication of the community spirit behind the
event and the industry’s strong commitment to The Conservation
Alliance,” said Kevin Spreekmeester, vice president of global
marketing for Canada Goose. “We’ve been humbled
by the support and enthusiasm around the tournament, as well as
impressed by the hockey know-how of the industry.
And we are looking forward to making new friends on the rinks next
month. But what’s really at the heart of the Canada Goose Cup is
supporting an organization that represents what we’re all about –
conserving the land where our families, friends and customers can
explore.”

The 16 participating teams will play single elimination, 12-minute
games in hopes of taking home the Canada Goose Cup, as well as
making a donation in their name to The Conservation Alliance. The
Arc’teryx “Blade in Canada” team won the 2010 event and took the
Cup back to Canada. New for 2011, each team has the opportunity to
bring a “ringer” to the competition, so there’s no telling who will
show up at the Canada Goose Cup Arena.
“The popularity of the Canada Goose Cup and the energy it generates
at OR Winter Market has been outstanding for our organization,”
said John Sterling, executive director of The Conservation
Alliance. “This event has been a great way to celebrate and build
awareness for the work that we do throughout the year and has
helped expand our family of supporters in Canada and the
U.S.”

wildlands and climbing areas. Since its inception in 1989, the
Alliance has contributed nearly $9 million to grassroots
environmental groups. Alliance funding has helped save over 49
million acres of wildlands; 28 dams have either been stopped or
removed; and the group helped preserve access to more than 17,000
